General Electric Electric Car Charger

The Build

A restoration of the 1910 GE electric car charger for the Petersen Automotive Museum — a piece of forgotten American EV history — featured on American Restoration.

Vehicle History

Built around 1910, this General Electric charger dates from the first golden age of electric vehicles, when electrics briefly outsold gasoline cars in America. Restored for the Petersen Automotive Museum, it charged early EVs through an era before standardized plugs or voltages existed.

Known for: charging electric cars more than a century before Tesla
