Bodie Stroud

Bodie Stroud is the CEO and founder of Bodie Stroud Industries in Sun Valley, California. He handles the day-to-day operations of his hot rod shop in addition to designing, building and fabricating cars, custom chassis, and suspension components. Currently, Stroud is working on a turn-key truck program, producing 1956 Ford F-100 trucks that can be ordered to the customer’s exact specifications. He has also designed the patented EZ-Aline adjustable tubular control arms.

Bodie Stroud took a gamble by leaving his corporate job to start his own automotive business building customs and Hot Rods. For 15 years, Stroud worked for the same company, beginning as a heavy duty diesel mechanic and working his way up the company ladder until he decided it was time to take a risk and open his own hot rod shop. In 2007, he began Bodie Stroud Industries (BSI) in a small shop in North Hollywood with one employee and has never looked back.

Growing up in the small town of Tujunga, California, cars were a big part of his life, his father and his father’s friends always had old cars around and they always seemed larger than life to Bodie. The first car he ever fell in love with was a 1957 Chevy Bel-Air his dad had. He recalls staring at all the chrome and the big metal dash that was painted turquoise and was just enamored with the car.

When he was 16, he got a 1961 18-window Volkswagen Bus and his dad wouldn’t pay for any repairs on the car, so he started doing all the mechanical work himself. While building the VW from the ground up, he discovered his talent and passion for working on vehicles. Whereas most builders and mechanics seem to learn the trade from their fathers or trade schools, Bodie is self-taught.

Stroud’s talents aren’t restricted to building and mechanics – he is also a talented designer. In addition to being a car enthusiast, he is also passionate about art. He briefly attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena for a year, taking classes in cartooning and still life drawings. He didn’t actually have an interest in drawing cars until his late 20s. He really began drawing car concepts when he had to draw concept sketches on the television show “Monster Garage” he starred on with builder and fabricator Jesse James. Stroud’s favorite part about the design process is seeing his concept sketches come to life.

Stroud has received accolades for his work including the 2007 Truck of the Year at Truck Jamboree with a 1956 Ford pickup truck and in 2009 won the Ford Design Award – Best of Show at SEMA with “The Scarliner” 1960 Ford Starliner. His work on projects like the “Scarliner” and “The Real Thing” 1969 Ford Mustang has been featured in countless TV specials and magazines. Stroud is also recognized for his work as lead fabricator and co-host on Travel Channel’s “Rock My RV” with Brett Michaels and was featured on Speed Channel’s “Hot Rod TV” where his work on Tim Allen’s 1968 Copo Camaro was chronicled. In addition to Tim Allen, many celebrities have commissioned builds from him – he built a 1951 Mercury for A-lister Johnny Depp, a 1970 Cadillac Coupe de Ville for “Jackass” star Johnny Knoxville and a total of two vehicles for car enthusiast Tim Allen – a 1950 Cadillac and the aforementioned ’68 Camaro.

In the span of his 20-year career, Bodie has a diverse automotive and mechanical background having worked on big rigs, tractor trailers and medium to heavy duty trucks. He has built more than 75 flatbeds and trailers, more than 100 diesel motors, and has completed 30 custom hot rods in the last seven years.

Not only is Stroud a designer, builder, and fabricator, he is also an engineer and innovator. He has patented his line of Bodie Stroud Industries EZ-Aline adjustable tubular control arms to simplify the lives of mechanics everywhere, creating a quick solution to an otherwise lengthy process. Always looking at the big picture, Stroud continues to leave an imprint on the automotive industry through his ingenuity, engineering and passion to reincarnate old American muscle with the technology of today.
