Dave, the manager of Barney’s Beanery: world famous sports bar located in downtown Hollywood, and Bodie have been friends for years. Dave came to us a while back about adding some “road flavor” to the bar after finding an old 1953 Wayne Model 505 Gas Pump.
Founded in 1891, the Wayne Oil Tank Company focused on oil dispensing machines until the popularization of the automobile. As the car became more common the company became one of the biggest producers of gasoline pumps in the nation, even inventing the first gas pump with a visible gallon display dial so consumers could see how much gas they were putting in their car.
Bodie wanted to take the concept further. Instead of just restoring the gas pump, Bodie decided it’d be badass to hollow out the mechanisms and turn the piece into a liquor display cabinet for the bar.
In order to do that, we hollowed out the pump mechanisms to be the base of the cabinet and cleaned up the exterior. The metal was buffed and dents were removed as well as the new glass installed on the fuel gage. We tricked out the interior with diamond plating, shelves, and lighting.
We had to have a fast turn around time on this piece for the sake of the show, but it didn’t mean Bodie didn’t grow attached. He bought it back and it now resides in the Stroud bar.
