"GMonster" - 1957 Chevy Bel Air

It does not get more iconic than a Chevy Bel Air. When fixing up one for my buddy, James Cole, I wanted to make it one of the best. James and I played baseball when we were kids, and his dad always had cars. James was always a fan of old cars, and the 1957 Chevy was one of his favorites.

James had bought and restored a ‘56 Chevy Bel Air earlier that he sold to start his new business and support his family. Once his business took off, he was ready to get back to the car he loved, so we got together to restore this ‘57 Chevy. This Bel Air leaves others in the dust with 800 horsepower and plenty of torque under the hood.

It took a couple of years to finish this car, but it set the stage for my new bolt-on suspension with the EZ-Aline adjusters. James allowed me to use his car for research and development for my front and rear suspension. In return, he got one of the coolest Bel Airs ever to cruise the road.

This car has lots of subtle body modifications that really enhance it. The bullets on the hood were removed, and custom front and rear bumpers were added. The trunk was shaved, and almost every piece of sheet metal, floorboards, both quarter panels, trunk pans, rockers etc. We even put this beauty in pictures, shooting a pilot for a show called Resto Mod for The History Channel.

Producing the 800 horsepower is a 509 Big Block Chevy motor with Kinsler stacked injection by QMP Racing. The transmission is a TCI 4L80 E and all that power roars through a polished three-inch stainless steel Magnaflow exhaust.

The front and rear suspensions are both BSI. The front is a bolt-on kit with EZ-Aline adjusters and rack and pinion. The rear is a four-link with EZ-Aline adjusters.

The wheels are Rushforth 20 x 12 on the rear and 19 x 8.5 on the front, and the tires are Mickey Thompson. Wilwood 13-inch brakes provide the stopping power for this beast built on a custom chassis by Bodie Stroud Industries (BSI).

Inside, we used a Flaming River steering column and wheel and a 3-inch aluminum driveline by Inland Empire Driveline. Dakota Digital gauges keep you in touch with the status of the car, while Vintage Air climate control maintains the perfect cruising temperature, and Steele Rubber weather stripping keeps the inside of your ride dry. We finished all that off with glass, trim, a grill and much more by Classic Industries and black leather upholstery by Corona Concepts. This car also has tunes for days with a Kenwood 7-inch touch screen double DIN head unit and a custom center console rocking a mini iPod docking station by BSI.

Now my buddy, James, has a sweet ride with music to keep him driving down memory lane.
